History
Incorporated on 19 December 1989 as Rob Pool Computing (Pty) Ltd, the company has established a strong reputation in the Botswana business community as a service provider covering a complete spectrum of systems support and maintenance.
Early Days
In 1992 the directors of RPC formed a separate company called Knowledge Systems Botswana (Pty) Ltd (KSB) in partnership with KSI South Africa (Pty) Ltd, then a part of the PQ Africa and an Oracle reseller. Through this, Rob Pool Computing became the official distributor of Oracle products in Botswana. RPC Data took over the business of KSB in July 1997, and KSB is now a dormant subsidiary.
By 1994, RPC entered a growth phase that required long-term technical support and re-capitalisation of the business. Q Data Consulting (owned by SA group PQ Africa) was identified as a strong technical partner with an established operation in Botswana and a deal was negotiated with PQ Africa whereby RPC acquired the their Botswana business, in exchange for 50% of its issued share capital. RPC changed its name to RPC Data.
In September 1999, PQ Investments, disposed of their entire shareholding in RPC Data to Rob Pool the Managing Director, who invited the public to invest in the business through a successful initial public offering on the Botswana Stock Exchange.
In March 2000, an agreement was reached to acquire Acumen Enterprises, one of Botswana’s leading software development companies, substantially increasing the company’s ability to develop bespoke solutions.
