RPC Data Ltd, the only IT company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange, has appointed several new citizen Directors. They are Mrs Tebelelo Seretse, Mrs Emeldah Mathe and Mr Parks Tafa.

They will join Mr Mompati Nwako (previously the Director of Budget Administration in the Ministry of Finance) and Mr Paul Paledi (a partner of Paledi Morrison Architects,) the other citizens; and Mr Rob Pool (English), Mrs Sheela Raja Ram (Indian) and Mr Kushan Naik (Mauritian), to complete a new board that is now predominantly Batswana.

The new board members will bring a wealth of talent and experience to the company. Mrs Seretse is a prominent businesswoman and a former Cabinet Minister. Mrs Mathe who is the Chairperson of Mascom Wireless and is a former CEO of Botswana Savings Bank. Mr Tafa is a practising attorney and a partner of Collins and Newman, a leading corporate law firm.

The directors represent a combination of business and legal skills that will drive RPC Data into an aggressive growth program. They will be able to merge a deep knowledge of the Botswana business landscape with their professional experience and proven business acumen. Key shareholders have expressed confidence that the company will improve its ability to secure new business with their assistance.

This action has been taken in support of the stated intention to make the company more locally controlled. The increase in citizen participation has been a consistent goal of RPC Data, and is in line with the Citizen Empowerment objectives espoused in the Botswana Government “Vision 2016” policy document. According to Mompati Nwako, “The move gives us the capacity to become even more responsive to new economic and business demands in the industry. By recognising the importance of re-inventing and re-energising the Company through new people and the ideas they bring to the table, RPC Data will be better placed to better serve its customers going forward.”
